Event Description : "Voh Subah Hami Se Aayegi" Seminar.
This seminar focusses on movements that have captured the attention of women, on their struggles for land, livelihood and resources leading sometimes even to imprisonment for their political work.
Through their lives and work we can explore the times that we have lived through and borne witness to, even as we may not have personally experienced the repression of those who have been in the forefront of these struggles. This focus will also enable us to understand the workings of the political agency of women who have sought to live out their lives fired by an oppositional imagination, faced repression, sustained themselves through their camaraderie and written about their experiences. The seminar hopes to reach out to a younger generation of women and men who may not be aware of the rich histories of struggles and to function as a living archive of the histories of mostly unknown women who have disappeared from our consciousness. This will be an occasion to participate in the making of an archive of our own times.

Session 1: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
People's Movements
This session looks at people's movements that have precipitated state arrests.
Panelists: Dayamani Barla | Chittaroopa Palit | Shamim Modi | Ilina Sen.
Session 2: 1:30 - 3:00 pm
Support from Civil Society for Women Prisoners
Lawyers who have fought cases for women, women's groups that have drawn attention to imprisoned women will speak about their supportive work.
Panelists: Vrinda Grover | Jagadalpur Legal Support Group | Saheli.
Session 3: 3:15 - 5:00 pm
Emerging scholarship on women's prison writings: Sharmila Purkayastha Jail Life, solidarities and going beyond camaraderie: This session will be about life in jail and the relationships that support and sustain the women during their incarceration. SoniSori on her ongoing work with imprisoned women and clips from a forthcoming film by Uma Chakravarti.
Session 4: 5:00 - 6:00 pm

Selective reading of prison writings by students.
A short performance by Maya Rao.
