Event Description : "Mission: Sputnik" film screening.

A village in the GDR, autumn 1989: Friederike is building a rocket with her beloved Uncle Mike and two friends. This carefree game is interrupted unexpectedly when Mike, who had applied for an exit visa, has to leave the country. Friederike is heartbroken by his departure. While under the constant watch of the suspicious village policeman, she intends to bring her uncle back by developing a machine with her two friends, which can beam him back to his homeland. Yet, it seems as though their experiment has the opposite result. While watching TV, the girl finds out that all the residents of the village are now in the West and are trying to get over the Wall unnoticed in order to return to their homes. With time running out, the kids have to act quickly if they want to avert a catastrophe at the border.

From January to May 2015 we are showing movies on children's stories in the library at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan. The movies will be in German with English subtitles, and afterwards there will be time for questions and discussion.
