Event Description : "Joining the Dots: Points of Shift, Pause, Discontinuity or Rupture" Conference.
Next up is a lecture demonstration by Sharmila Biswas, who takes us through the research-intensive process of working with the performing traditions of Orissa to create Odissi choreography. Post lunch, Preethi Athreya is in conversation with Sadanand Menon, speaking about her last work, 'Light Doesn't Have Arms to Carry Us'. How does one translate an aural experience into a visual rhythm, she asks.
Then there is some free time for our participants and audience members to propose open space sessions on topics of interest and enquiry that emerge during the conference or from broader concerns about dance practice. Following this, there are 101 sessions, introductory talks to critical aspects that complement the creative process. Today, we've picked writing about your work, marketing it and what copyright means to dance to focus on.
Finally, there's 'Three Questions, Three Discoveries', a work sharing where young practitioners share their choreographic work through the lens of THREE questions/ moments of shift, pause, discontinuity or rupture that they have grappled with in their practice, leading to the choreographic imaginations, spaces and contexts that they inhabit today.
Besides these sessions, the conference is home to a number of installations that need your inputs. Among them is a map of shared dance histories across South India, that we invite you to populate, a resource tree where you can offer/ ask for skills and resources that you can share/ need from the dance community. Also, finally, there's a selfie booth so that you can spread the love.
