Event Description : Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan cordially invites you to a talk by Prof Dilip K. Chakrabarti on "The State of Ancient Indian Historical Studies in Modern India".
Dilip Kumar Chakrabarti is a noted Indian archaeologist and professor of South Asian Archaeology at Cambridge University. He is known for his studies on the early use of Iron in India and the archaeology of Eastern India. Chakrabarti started his career as a lecturer of Archaeology at Calcutta University from 1965-77. He was a reader of Archaeology at Delhi University from 1977-90. He moved to a teaching post in South Asian Archaeology at Cambridge University in 1990 and was promoted to professor.
His current research interests relate broadly to the ancient historical geography of lndia. Having completed study of the archaeological geography of the Ganga plain (1991-2005), he is now focused on understanding the route network of the Deccan and the south, and also on putting forward a geopolitical frame within which the ancient lndian dynasties operated. As an extension of his Ganga plain interests, he is currently undertaking a study of the distribution of archaeological sites in Haryana.
