Event Description : PlayON! The Collegiate Theatre Festival of New German Writing.

PlayON! - The Collegiate Theatre Festival of New German Writing is an attempt to promote the long-standing tradition of collegiate theatre in Delhi and introduce audiences to contemporary German writing.

The festival premiered as part of the Indo-German Urban Mela last year. The third edition of this festival will be held in October 2014 at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi.

Three colleges have created plays under the mentorship of Delhi based actor and director Anirudh Nair, they are:

‘Electronic City’ by Falk Richter

Presented by Dramatic Society, Ambedkar University
A neo-romantic love story about Tom and Joy, from the start of the 21st century. Tom is a resilient and extremely flexible consultant whose only foothold is the porno channel in his hotel room and Joy a stand-in on the scanner-till of Prêt-à-manger International, someone who didn't finish her studies, a flexible and adaptable colleague. They fell in love while fighting over the last place on a flight home to Berlin. They were arrested and locked up together; the start of a great love story.

‘Tattoo’ by Lea Doher
Presented by Lady Sri Ram College for Women
Tattoo is the story of two sisters, Anita and little Lulu, their repressed and emotionally dysfunctional mother and her very loving father, the town baker. The father loves his family, values the family unit and his role as family leader utmost. So much so that he even feels it is his responsibility to introduce his daughters to ‘womanhood’ by ‘teaching’ them how to please a man. Based on real life stories, Tattoo looks at the subjugation of women in a patriarchal world. It is the tale of a dysfunctional family, a story about the imprisonment of the spirit, of incarceration that occurs in the home and through loved and trusted people.

‘Parasites’ by Marius von Mayenburg
Presented by School of Planning and Architecture
Old Multscher fell asleep at the wheel of his car and ran Ringo over since when, Ringo has been in a wheelchair, won't leave his apartment and has to rely on his girlfriend Betsi to nurse him. Betsi has taken in her sister Friderike, who is pregnant and unstable. Petrik, Friderike’s husband follows her to the flat with offers of reconciliation. Multscher cannot bear the burden of his guilt and finds his way to the flat. On a hot summer's day all five get caught up in a grim fight about and with each other. They are all going to pieces and need each other to survive.
