Event Description : "Cyberspace or Duperspace for Online Consumers" National seminar.

Online vendors frequently tend to exploit on-line buyers through browse wrap or click wrap agreements which become enforceable once activated either by clicking or by accepting to browse the web page. The presence of the link providing the terms and conditions, or the 
button which says “I Accept” which is known as click wrap the representation of the terms and conditions are adequately communicated to the user of the website. In a browse wrap unlike the act of clicking in a click wrap, an agreement becomes enforceable once the user moves beyond the homepage of a website, but many of us do not tend to look into the conditions itself which makes the user vulnerable to exploitation and the user unknowingly enters into an agreement with a vendor. Our discussion issue in the seminar is going to revolve around on the crucial questions as how an online consumer be safeguarded for getting duped by the sly and cunning vendors; how this malpractice be checked and what legal measures be brought into effect to put the nail in the coffin of the such online vendors and how they be brought to book and what and how punishment/ penalty be imposed on them to make them deter as well others venturing forth from the path of duping machinery. The discussion also hinges on making browsing a safe experience for the consumers specifically in the Indian context.
