Event Description : The Films and Theatre Society presents  'Draupadi' Hindi Play.

Kartaro and Imarti, two old women in a Haryanvi joint family gather all the women on a night when all the males of the family and neighborhood have gone out in the “Baraat” of a young boy. The older women remember the play Draupdi that they used to stage some fifteen years back which was later banned by the patriarch of the family on the pretext that it spoils the minds of women. Grabbing the opportunity all the women start playing scenes from the play- scenes of Draupadi as a young bride who finds herself cheated when Hastinapur and Khandavprasth are partitioned, of unfulfilled love of Draupadi’s for Arjun, of Draupadi being disrobed. The women begin to draw parallels with Draupadi in their lives and to understand and discover their more subtle emotions, needs & desires that get thwarted in the rigidly patriarchal setup.
