Gabriel García Márquez, fondly known as Gabo, was a popular Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and journalist. He earned critical acclaim for his magic realist style of writing which reflected the life of Latin American people. Márquez was awarded Nobel Prize in literature in 1982. One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch and Chronicle of a Death Foretold are some of his most celebrated works.
Sonya Surabhi Gupta is Director, Centre for European and Latin American Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia. Her publications include translation from Spanish to Hindi of Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece, One Hundred Years of Solitude (Ekant Ke Sau Varsh, 2003). She has also published an anthology of stories by Indian women writers.
Pankaj Singh is an eminent Hindi Poet. His poems have been translated in Indian, French and Russian language. He has three collections of poems, Aahatein Aas Paas, Jaise Pawan Paani and Nahin. He was awarded Shamsher Samman in 2007.
