Sursagar Society of Delhi Gharana (Regd)
Sursagar Society was founded in 1940 by the late Ustad Chand Khan Sahab (Sangeet Martand) in the memory of his father Shams-e-Mousiqui, Ustad Mamman Khan. The society aims to conserve and promote an awareness of both the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and the deeper and subtler values of these arts. This is of utmost importance, because what we are trying to do here is noble. We’re trying to save an art, the art of music, which is precisely, an implication of the collective conscience of the Indian civilization. The idea behind Sursagar Society of Dilli Gharana is to promote Indian music in a way that really does have an effect, a permanent effect on the pattern of following of Indian music. Here, we plan more and more events with efficient collaborations in concerts and take this the live performances of the masters to the next level.
The society has been organizing concerts in Delhi, Kolkata and Ranchi, and honoring outstanding artists with the objective of developing more interest in Indian Classical Music. The society also runs the Amir Khusro Institute of Dilli Gharana where training is being provided to all those interested in any art form of Indian Classical Music in a traditional Guru Shishya Parampara.
Sangeet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Music Festival represents an opportunity for music lovers of the city to connect with the richly resonant art of Hindustani music. With representation from all parts of India, this festival intends to resonate a musical spirit of music connoisseurs across the world. In conjunction with Ustad Chand Khan Festival, the society also confers Saneet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award every year.
