Environment Thought & Forestry Policies In India & Germany – Two Perspectives | With Reva Prakash & Sina Leipold
Scholars in Residence is a residential programme for young researchers that promotes scientific exchange by allowing visits by researchers from the humanities and social sciences in Germany or abroad. Young scientists get an opportunity to develop close contacts with other researchers to work together to initiate projects and foster long-term bilateral cooperation.
Sina Leipold examines interactions between national and international forest-related policies in India through expert interviews and documents while Reva Prakash explores environmental thought and major environmental concerns in Germany through expert interviews as a way to juxtapose it with the environmental thought in India.
The residency programme was initiated in 2009 in cooperation with the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen (KWI) in the context of the Year of Academic Relations of the Foreign Office. The initiative was initially started as a pilot project on the themes of cultural memory, culture and climate change and migration. The residency programme is intended to aid international scientific contacts and encourage intra - and inter-disciplinary dialogue between exponents of "public science" that appeals to a wide audience. KWI and Goethe-Institut hope that this dialectic perspective will lead to increased activity in the areas of cultural projects and research.
