Event Description : It’s the day we celebrate workers’ struggles, renew commitments to a better tomorrow, and get books that help us think how we might build that better tomorrow. So join us for our second anniversary.

We have a range of books in English and Hindi, fiction and non-fiction, Indian and imported, for adults, children and young adults. And don’t miss our bargain books table. [But come early to get the best bargains.]

We also have other cool stuff — films, music, mugs, paperweights, bookmarks, bags, T shirts, theatre photographs and organic fruit squashes that adhere to fair trade practices.

This is election season, and the theme of the day is Choices. So through the afternoon and evening, Altamas [magician, juggler, unicyclist], Barry Gilder [activist and singer], Danish Husain [storyteller and actor], Mallika Taneja and Anil Ramaprasad [actors],  Orijit Sen [graphic artist and designer], Pervez Imam [singer and film maker], Rupleena Bose [teacher and film maker], Sanjeev Kumar [literary critic], Sanjna Kapoor [seriously silly person — her words, not ours], Satyajit Rath [scientist], Sumangala Damodaran [economist and singer] will reflect on choices [and the lack of them] through their stories, songs, performances, images, readings and reflections. [If you want to bring a guitar and sing, you’re welcome – but come by 3, because you’ll go first up.]

Your barista will be historian Mukul Mangalik. [We want to call him May Day’s guardian angel, but he prohibits us. And if you don’t know what barista is, use that smart phone.]

Bake a Cake for May Day and we’ll be happy to serve it. What will you get? Gratitude, and a May Day bag or mug of your choice. [We have a whole new range of them, including one of Marx and a bicycle.]

May Day @ May Day totally rocks. Don’t take our word for it. Ask those who were there last year. Or the year before. And why not? We are Delhi’s [India’s?] first left-wing café and bookstore, which is adjacent to a theatre space, Studio Safdar.
