Event Description : 'Not Your Mothers' by Delhi Dance Theater.
After a successful Indian debut of Beneath The Tamarind Tree in 2013, the New York City based company, Delhi Dance Theater, is excited to bring a new production to premiere in Delhi this year.
Not Your Mothers, uses the medium of Contemporary dance, Kathak, Physical Theater and live original music to explore the changing roles of women in modern India in reaction to recent social change. It observes the current generations conflict between staying true to tradition or stepping forward into modernity and the affect this has on identity.
Not Your Mothers brings together a cast of international dancers and musicians in an exciting evening of cross-cultural expression, using classical art forms to communicate contemporary themes. To coincide with International Women's Day, the evening promotes awareness and encourages debate on this challenging topic through artistic collaboration.
The program includes dance performances by Ritusri Chaudhuri (IN), Leah Raphael Curtis (US), Chan Chan Devi (IN), Shweta Garg (IN), Anasua Majumdar (IN) and Emily Mcloughlin (UK). Live music performed by Daniel Rangel (MEX), Sergio Dinarte (SV), Pablo Grace (ARG) , Nathalie Ramírez Tovar (MEX) and Sumithra Narayanan (IN)
The event is held at The LTG Auditorium, one of Delhi's oldest auditoriums, centrally located in Mandi House.
