Event Description : 'DOK Leipzig Lake Festival 2014 - Preview' documentary film screening
DOK Leipzig Lake Festival 2014 is presented by FORMEDIA with support from Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Embassy of Switzerland and An Artist Within. The festival will showcase 12 long and short acclaimed international documentaries representing 15 countries in different genres.
Highlights of The Film Collection :
Special Flight by Fernand Melgar: Migrants in a Geneva detention centre wait for flights that will take them back by force to places without a future.
Are You Listening! by Kamar Ahmad Simon: About to go under – a village on a dyke in Bangladesh is fighting for survival and a future after a flood. The climate catastrophe as larger-than-life, visually stunning cinema.
Tzvetanka by Youlian Tabakov: A Bulgarian doctor has survived the monarchy, socialism and democracy. An ordinary biography narrated in a flow of surprising images and arrangements.
When Hari Got Married by Ritu Sarin/Tenzing Sonam: It’s okay when you’ve never seen your bride before the wedding. But what will she look like? Arranged marriage in India as a comedy with a touch of Bollywood, featuring an enchanting hero.
Sofia’s Last Ambulance by Ilian Metev: In a rattling ambulance on bumpy streets in the chaos of Sofia. A losing battle, but fought with wit and a cigarette dangling from their lips.
Life in Stills by Tamar Tal: Miriam Weissenstein, 96, is a sharp-tongued Tel Aviv character permanently at war with the authorities (about her photo studio) and her grandson (about everything else). Heartwarming.
Tea or Electricity by Jérome Le Maire: A remote village in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco is linked to civilisation by electricity. Tragicomedy about the conflict potential of the modern age.
Documentarian by Ivars Zviedris/Inese Klava: A filmmaker wants to document Inta’s “simple life”, for which she berates, curses and beats him with all her strength. A ribald response to current film and media practice.
Stremt 89 by Anda Puscas/Dragos Dulea : What do you need for a revolution? Lots of alcohol, a few sickles and shotguns and an opponent in the cornfield ... Autumn 1989 in the Carpathan Mountains, straight from the source.
I’ll Stop Crying if You Stop Crying by Andy Glynne: One of the many stories of refuges and asylum seekers who face fear and death and learn to settle in a new country – an animated story, narrated by 10-years-old Hamid from Eritrea.
Presence by Yashaswini Raghunandan/Ekta Mittal: A construction site somewhere in Asia is populated by nomadic workers and their ghost stories. The aura of the supernatural captured between railway tracks and scaffolding.
Reality 2.0 by Victor Orozco Ramirez: Animated documentary about the drug-related violence in Mexico.
The DOK Leipzig Lake Festival will be held at The Lake Resort, Naukuchiatal, District Nainital, Uttarakhand between April 17 to 21, 2014.
