Event Description : 'Shunya' a solo art show by Prafulla Mohanti.
Writer, dancer, architect and artist Prafulla Mohanti donates the entire proceeds of his exhibition titled, Shunya for the children of Nanpur in Odisha.

Noted UK-based writer, artist and architect Prafulla Mohanti has returned to Delhi after a long hiatus. His latest artworks on Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar create divine images within the infinite space of Shunya. It is this divine energy that gives the artist the impetus to donate the entire proceeds of his exhibition for the children of Nanpur in Odisha, the village he was born in, the village that discovered his creative innovation, the village that continues to inspire Mohanti.
The artist whose heart still lives in Nanpur would like to replicate the ‘hole in the wall’ experiment of Dr. Sugata Mitra where a computer was placed in a slum wall with access to all. The amazing results showed that children learnt to use the computer and the internet all on their own, without any knowledge of the English language.
For the young girls and boys of Nanpur, the artist has already set up a school where children can learn English and computers. The proceeds of his artwork will help the school buy computers, pay for online connections and to the English and computer teachers.
The artist whose collections have been displayed at the British Museum, MOMA, NGMA, Lalit Kala Academy, Air India, ICCR,  both in India and abroad, will also release his coffee table book titled, Shunya.
About the artist
Prafulla studied architecture at the JJ School of Art, Bombay, and decided to go to London in 1960 as in those days very few people went abroad.fications. Even excellent teachers with Indian qualifications were not considered good enough.  In 1964 he completed his diploma in town planning at Leeds where in the same year his first one man exhibition of paintings was held. He worked as an architect-planner for the Greater London Council until 1970 and then gave this up to devote himself to painting and writing. He has taught painting and dancing to children in the East End of London and has given dance recitals relating movement to painting.
He is the author of My Village, My Life’, Indian Village Tales, Through Brown Eyes, Changing Village, Changing Life and Longing, a collection of illustrated poems with Devdas Chhotray.
