Event Description : Walk 1: Around Jagatpur & Wazirabad, Sunday Oct. 6, 2013,
Here we travel to the outskirts of North Delhi to Jagatpur village riverfront to see the River Yamuna in its pristine glory, free from all kinds of pollution.  Here, upstream of Wazirabad, the Yamuna looks like a proper river and not a filthy drain. Here you’ll find a vast swathe of fertile alluvial soil with taller-than-human weeds. We visit a ghat (stepped embankment) just north of Wazirabad village, which is actually a cluster of temples, old and new. In Wazirabad what do we find? You’ll be amazed!  Historic monuments from Firoz Shah Tuglaq’s time!  Even a Muslim saint’s shrine- is it from the Tughlaq times?

History meets culture: Indomania Cultural Tours collaborates with Delhi Metro Walks to provide 3 new walks: Hidden Gems around the River Yamuna

Other two upcoming walks are :

Walk 2: Around Majnu Ka Tila, Saturday Nov. 9, 2013, 7-10 am
What is the historical significance of Majnu Ka Tila? We will discover Tibetan settlements and historic Sikh temple and find out about Akharas (traditional Indian wrestling arenas).  Do we still see the Yamuna River or is it rapidly disappearing when it reaches Delhi?

Walk 3: Around Nigambodh Ghat, Sunday Dec. 8, 2013, 8-11 am
How old is this ghat that consists of a series of bathing and ceremonial stepped piers leading to the river waterfront?  Is there a Hindu temple from the Mahabharat times?  Is it one of the oldest burning ghats?  Together we look at old maps to see how close the river was to Delhi Red Fort not so long ago.  Witness interesting and unusual Hindu customs. Makes you wonder: Are you in Delhi or Varanasi?
