Event Description : All India Women’s Conference presents 'Shilpkala Utsav' a women artisans’ crafts bazaar.

It's a unique initiative of the AIWC focused on the empowerment of women artisans, revival of crafts and elimination of the middleman. It aims to preserve a vital component of our national heritage - the traditional arts and crafts of our country. More than 60 women artisans carefully selected from over 20 states across India will showcase their exquisite collections this year.

Exquisite collections from a wide genre of women artisans are being showcased. Besides some National and State awardees, rural artisans and young college students are participating.

This year some organisations like the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA), SEWA Bharat, AIWC Textile Printing Unit, Srijani and Jamia Milia Islamia Artisan Outreach program are also showcasing the crafts of their women artisan members. There will be live demonstrations by the artisans, folk performances and mehndi-churi by the AIWC Community College's students and inmates of Bapnu Ghar, AIWC’s short stay home. AIWC President, Smt. Bina Jain who has been actively organising the crafts bazaar since 2001 says, "AIWC offers free space to women artisans to sell their products (and AIWC does not take a share of sales). We want to promote needy women artisans specially from remote areas". Smt. Ritu Singhal, Co-ordinator Shilpkala Utsav says, "We are encouraging our participants to focus on quality, and we are very happy when participating in Shilpkala Utsav helps them identify patrons of their arts. Last year was a very successful show".
