Event Description : Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra presents mono acts of ‘Soordas’, with 34 melodious song sequences with common and rare ragas by Shekhar Sen.

Soordas
Shekhar Sen is coming up with his new musical monoact 'Soordas'. After the grand success of his earlier plays, 'Tulsi', 'Kabeer', 'Vivekanand' 'Sanmati' and 'Saahab', Shekhar brings another gem of Indian culture. 'Soordas', is a tale of a poet, who was not fortunate enough to see the outwardly world with his eyes but had a wide vision through which he wrote more than 10,000 bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna. His poems on the 'Bal Leela' are the immortal treasure of our devotional heritage. 600 years ago, he witnessed the darkest period of religious fanaticism, when he went spreading love with his melodious bhajans.
The play covers 105 years of his life span, touching very interesting tales of Mahaprabhu Vallabhachary's influence on him, becoming the lead poet of 'Asht Chhaap' poets, who sang the glories of Lord Krishna.

Achievements
A talented singer, composer, lyrcist and actor, Shekhar Sen hails from a Bengali family with roots in Raipur (Chhattisgarh). He learnt music from his musicologist parents, Dr. Arun Kumar Sen and Dr. Aneeta Sen, both renowned classical singers of Gwalior gharana. The younger Sen established a distinct identity for himself, by singing the medieval poets like Raskhan, Raheem, Lalit Kishori, Dhondhi Nayak and many more. Shekhar has done more than 1500 shows all over the world and released more than 190 cassettes and CDs. He has composed the music for many TV serials and sung for the record breaking serial 'Ramayan'. Shekhar Sen's first musical mono act was 'Goswami Tulsidas' (1998) and his second, 'Kabeer', 'Vivekanand', his third, represents yet another milestone for this gem of an artist dedicated to bringing the ageless and universal message of Hinduism to discerning people everywhere. Sen, was the first artist to perform his famous mono act musical play 'Kabeer' at 'Loksabha' on 4th May 2005. Shekhar was awarded Sangeet Natak Academi Puraskaar at Lucknow. He was member of film censor board for 4 years and also served as an expert for government bodies and Human Resources Development Ministry on many occasions.
