Event Description : Ekjute presents 'Salaam 1950s Ke Naam' Hindi Play.
It gives us immense pleasure to introduce you to our latest play titled: SALAAM.. 1950s KE NAAM. This magnum opus production is Nadira Babbar and Ekjute's tribute to the Golden Era.The play had staged at Ekjute's 30th year Festival 2011 at Prithvi Theatre in April 2011.
Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s undying love and immense admiration for the cinema of 1950s inspired her to pen SALAAM.. 1950s KE NAAM. This mega musical is her way of telling a tale which is not alien to the audience and in fact is a walk down memory lane for those who’ve grown up watching films of that era. It also attracts the generation of newbies who at times remain ignorant of the history of traditional Indian cinema. This play will definitely match up to the experiences they wish they’d never had missed. With conventional formulaic ingredients such as star-crossed lovers and revengeful Thakurs and Kabeelawalas(tribesmen), love triangles, family ties, sacrifice, shrewd and conniving villains/vamps, friends with hearts of gold, loyal munims, comedian’s love tracks, long-lost over dues and lovers separated by fate, dramatic reversals in love and convenient coincidences are all a part of this new tribute to the golden era of 1950s.
Unique Aspects of this Magnum Opus Production:
• Although the story line may seem familiar, the one thing that sets it apart is Nadira Babbar’s attempt to bring the experience of watching a classic black and white film on stage.
• The poster of this cinematic experience on stage is designed by none other but the famous film hoarding painter of 1940s-50s and internationally acclaimed painting maestro, M.F. Husain.
• SALAAM.. 1950s KE NAAM will also stage popular songs from the 50s like Suhana Safar Aur Ye Mausam Haseen, Shola Jo Bhadke, Yaad Kiya Dil Ne Kahan Ho Tum among many other evergreen melodies .
• Another innovative aspect is that the play will be showcased only in tones of black and white wherein characters will don hues of black and white costumes, designed by Oscar Award winner and renowned costume designer of the Indian film industry since 1950s, Bhanu Athaiya.
SALAAM..1950s KE NAAM is one of a kind, exuberant, elaborate and lavish on stage affair, the only one in the country for sure. Such blended realism and fantasy, nostalgic music and dance, impactful dialogues will definitely integrate the story into a dramatic discourse of melodrama on stage. It remains a treat to all those who missed such times and wished to be taken back in an era unforgotten.
Ekjute theatre Group and Nadira Babbar will sprinkle magic dust over a zillion hearts and mesmerize them with this story set in a filmy gaaon. Today, wherein we are living in the Bollywood generation, SALAAM..1950s KE NAAM is Ekjute's humble tribute to the golden era of 1950s.
Cast: The cast comprises of the highly talented and versatile Juhi Babbar Soni, who has recently been honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Rashtriya Puraskar and got pride to all at Ekjute. Senior actors of Ekjute like Hanif Patni, Ankur Parekh, Santosh Tiwari and Rajoshi Vidyarthi, Sangam Shukla, Mithilesh Maihar supported by many other theatre enthusiasts of Ekjute.
