Event Description : Circle Theatre Company presents 'Rath Ki Rassi' A ‘Tribute to Tagore’ with a new production - Rath ki Rassi, an experimental piece of ''Contemporary Dance & Body Expressions'', based on universal text of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Rath ki Rassi, (or Rather Roshi as written by Tagore), is a strong statement delivered against the artificial hierarchy built within the socio-economic strata. The story sets in a village where there is an Utsav of Ratha-Yatra, which takes place each year. In the Utsav, the Ratha (the Chariot), of the Lord Mahakaal is pulled by the people through its ropes. Every year the responsibility of the pull rests within the high caste (the Pandit, Brahman) and the economically well endowed section.
This year, however, the Pandit suddenly finds out to his surprise that the Chariot is immovable to its pull. He calls upon the Dhanapatis (the Business class) and then the Sainiks (the Soldiers) to do the same, and sees them fail as well. It is declared by a passing Sannyasi, (the Sage) that the Lord Mahakaal is perturbed by the artificial imbalance brought on to the ‘human’ world by men and their crimes against the ‘nature’. Thus, the ‘Ropes of the Chariot’ are lifeless and the wheels are jammed. Scared by the declaration of the Sannyasi, (the Sage) the villagers try to pacify the lord by offering Puja to the ‘Chariot God’, the ‘Rope God’ and the ‘Road God’, but to no avail.
Finally, a group of Shudras (the low Cast) enter the scene claiming that they have the order of the Lord Mahakaal to pull his Chariot this year. Immediately they are rebuffed from the Pandit who is the custodian of the ‘caste system’ that are not allowed to touch the rope according the Shastras. However the King steps in and grants them the permission. At last the Shudras pulls the Chariot to everybody's happiness.
