Event Description : International Ancient Arts Festival/Symposium 2013.
Romanian Ballet performers from Bucharest National Opera House come together with Odissi danseuse Reela Hota to present a unique dance recital that will be a significant highlight of the fourth edition of International Ancient Arts Festival/Symposium 2013.
The two-day festival has always highlighted the therapeutic benefits of music and dance in restoring individual health and harmony, and this time, the special focus of the festival will be on ancient languages, in particular Sanskrit. The festival-cum-symposium is being held under the aegis of Rays of Wisdom Society supported by ICCR, Ministry of Culture, UP Tourism & Ginger Hotels and will include, apart from performances by Bucharest National Opera House artistes, Reela Hota and Pt Rajan-Sajan Mishra, scholars from USA and Australia.
This is the 4th edition of the festival which aims to bring together the modern and the traditional, scholars and artists to demonstrate the scientific basis of traditional arts and their integration in our day to day lives.

Odissi danseuse and spiritualist Reela Hota, Festival Director, and founder member of Rays of Wisdom Society says, “The aim of this festival is highlighting how music, dance and vital therapeutic practices in traditional systems of healing can combine to meet lifestyle challenges of today. The special focus is on an ancient language this year, Sanskrit. Sanskrit verses are believed to be very powerful for our physical and mental health. According to the great scholarly Yoga Guru, Paramahansha Swami Satyananda Sarwaswati of the Bihar School of Yoga, these sound waves can even rectify certain defects in the human genes. Research has shown that certain ancient sounds or ‘sacred languages’ vibrate at a frequency that is beneficial for health. Dr Hans Jerry, a Swiss doctor, artist, and researcher, in his book ‘The Structure and Dynamics of Waves and Vibrations’, noticed that when the vowels of the ancient languages of Hebrew and Sanskrit were pronounced, the sand took the shape of the written symbols for these vowels.”

Schedule :
The festival will kickstart on May 22 at 6.30 p.m. with a talk – “Can sound Heal?” by Mandara Cromwell from USA, who is the founder of The International Sound Therapy Association. At 7 p.m., the talk will be followed by Sanskrit: the Mantra Bhasha; Fusion Dance on the Healing Aspect of Ancient Languages by Dancers from Bucharest National Opera House & Odissi exponent Reela Hota.

On May 23 (second day), the festival will begin at 6.30 p.m with a talk - Psychodrama as a Living Process - by Sue Daniel from Australia, who is the Director of the Psychodrama Institute of Melbourne. At 7 p.m., the grand finale of the evening will be a performance by none other than the veterans of classical Indian vocal music Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan & Sajan Mishra. They were awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2007, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award jointly in 1998 and the Gandharwa National Award for 1994-1995. Part of a 300-year old lineage of khayal singing of the Banaras gharana, the Mishra brothers have so far released over 20 music albums.

Reela Hota is an eminent Odissi performer, educator and producer. She has performed in many highly esteemed festivals and traveled Oman, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia, and Botswana to perform Odissi dance. She is credited for adding a new dimension to Odissi Dance - the spiritual aspect. In addition to the traditional repertoire, she has presented unique dance pieces on the philosophy of Yoga and Tantra. Her association with great spiritual masters has enabled her to explore the philosophical underpinnings of classical arts in greater depth. Hota has also organized and produced festivals across India and is the founder secretary of Rays of Wisdom Society, an organization dedicated to highlighting how music, dance and vital therapeutic practices in traditional systems of healing can combine to meet lifestyle challenges of today. She is joined by Dancers from Bucharest National Opera House.
