Event Description : Utsav Educational & Cultural Society-Ranjana’s Dance Academy founded by the leading Odissi exponent and proponent of Indian culture, Smt Ranjana Gauhar, a Padmashri & Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, has completed 26 years of its establishment.

Utsav has contributed and enriched the world of classical dance and music particularly Odissi dance through teaching and training. Young and upcoming artists are given a platform through Utsav’s festivals, seminars and participation in prestigious cultural events globally. Ranjana Gauhar also carries the arts for the youth in remote areas of the country through her vibrant and communicative lec-dems. Variety in content and presentation in all its endeavours is Utsav’s forte, which sets it apart in the cultural milieu.

Utsav will present its new dance drama-‘Matsya Avatar’ at LTG Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi. As the Creative Director of the production Ranjana Gauhar has conceived and choreographed the presentation. The repertory of Ranjana’s dance Company with accomplished dancers will highlight synchronization, abhinaya and the beauty of Odissi dance through this concept. About 25 dancers, musicians and technical support will bring to you an elevating experience.

‘Matsya Avatar’ is an episode drawn from Indian mythology which narrates the first ‘avatar’ incarnation of Lord Vishnu. However, the underlying meaning conveys the importance of preserving the environment and saving nature and the fundamental elements necessary to sustain life. Though the story is of prehistoric age, its relevance is as significant in today’s times as in the past.
