Event Description : 'WHAT HAPPENED 2081 ? : After Berlin and Johannesburg: The 3. International Congress' Talk and Walk
It is the year 2081, and everything is forgotten. Men are forbidden, drama is forbidden, democracy is forbidden. The algorithm rules – memory and history are lost.
Then, fragments are discovered: archives, hard discs, books, knowledge. There is the grammar, but the narrative is missing. From the fragments a ‘congress’ will search this narrative, on a two-day-exploration.
Talk : On the first day, Georg Diez and Christopher Roth from Berlin will talk about their journey to the years 1980 and 1981 during a communal lunch. They will talk about how the future is leaving its marks on the present.
Later they invite the audience to another room: to the year 2081, when only women are allowed to speak – men were violence, men have been forbidden.
But how has our world changed? What was violence? Only Neo-Yogaism is left. And so these women will try through talk, chant or performance to explain the unexplainable. Some of them are in Delhi, some are in Berlin, in Sao Paulo, Rishikesh, the past.
Walk : On the second day, there will be an urban exploration. Nothing will happen, it is just a walk, a march.
The city will be looked at from the perspective of the year 2081. Between the Hall of Nations at
Pragati Maidan and the Lotus Temple of the Bahai Religion. What is religion, what is a ritual, what is death? Will the future and the past help us to explain a present decaying from boredom? What has happened? We look for symptoms and signs of a future truth.

THE INITIATORS OF 80*81 AND 2081:
Georg Diez writes for the Spiegel magazine and is the author of Der Tod meiner Mutter (The Death of My Mother), a bestseller from 2009.
Christopher Roth is a film director and artist. His film Baader was first trashed at the Berlinale Film Festival and highly appreciated later. It was awarded the Alfred-Bauer-Preis.
In January 2011 they staged What happened 2081? during the National School of Drama Festival in Delhi.
