However, director, producer and scriptwriter Feo Aladag has managed to create a multi-layered and poignant portrait of a family, far removed from the typical clichés, with her breathtaking cinematic debut “When We Leave” (Die Fremde).

Lene’s rickety minibus takes them to Szczecin, Gdansk and Masuria: a road movie in which a young girl and an old woman embark on a quest to clarify their past, to bridge the gap between generations and rediscover themselves.

This plagiarism spurs on David's career - that is until Jacky appears, the real author of the book. But he too turns out to be an imposter.
