Event Details : Designer Shashiv Chandran invites you to view UTSAV’s “Weave Vriksha,” the tree of traditional Indian textiles, sprouting contemporary textures, designs, colours and patterns in sarees, fabrics, dupattas and salwaar-kurta coordinates.
Shashiv’s effort has been meticulous and deep towards creating close linkages with weaver communities across India, especially in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. UTSAV has identified key master weavers, some of whom work exclusively for Shashiv, also others who have taken up the challenge of returning to the colloquial weaving roots of their past.
In a typical process, Shashiv identifies unique and often extant textile fragments, colours and designs that have eased out of weaver memory. He attempts at enabling the resuscitator of such patterns, textures and colours and facilitates accessibilities of individuals, who value the uniqueness that UTSAV brings to Indian handlooms. In its range of prints, UTSAV focuses on vegetable colours, that enjoy a new and popular market niche. Their intrinsic values are much sought after, as they are eco-friendly, safe, non-hazardous, gentle, soft and subtle. The UTSAV design and development model has evolved over 2 decades and today, the over 5 crore annual turnover is reflective of the special niche that UTSAV has created for Shashiv’s unique vision and initiative.
UTSAV’s commitment to nurturing the heritage value of Indian handlooms is laudable and continues, as it enters the third decade of creativity.
