Event Details : ICCR presents Katyayani's 'O', a multi-media, dance theatre production.
About two legendary saint poets, Rabia of Basra and Karaikkal Ammaiyar of Tamil Nadu and their struggles against patriarchal structures in search of freedom. Opposites in Nature, they battled similar obstracles to attain their spiritual goals and were revered, in the end, by the very men who castigated them. 
The play was funded by the Ministry of Culture and opened in August last year, to good reviews.

Directed by : Sohaila Kapur
Sohaila  Kapur is a journalist, playwright, theatre director and actor. She started her career with the Times of India and has written over a 100 articles for mainstream newspapers. She has also scripted several plays including one that opened at the Edinburgh Fringe as Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan and won an award. That play has travelled to three continents as two different productions and was also selected for the NSD festival in 2010, where it performed as Mahim Junction. She has authored a book on esoteric rites titled Witchcraft In Western India, which resulted in her selection as the anchor for an award winning National Geographic Channel documentary, Indian Witch Hunt. She has written several plays for adults and children, some of which she has produced and directed. As an actor, Sohaila has worked on television and in theatre with some of the best talents, as well as in Govind Nihalani’s national award winning feature, Rukmavati Ki Haveli. She has worked for the multicultural channel Omni in Canada, and is currently a writer, producer and anchor with Lok Sabha TV.
