Event Details : As part of “Germany and India 2011 - 2012: Infinite Opportunities”, the Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, brings to India, the DEFA retrospective which presents for the first time the films of DEFA (Deutsche Film AG), the former East German film studios, which are relatively unknown in India. DEFA classics,such as ”Traces of Stones”, “The Sons of Great Bear”, “The Legend of Paul and Paula”, documentaries, as also films from the time of German reunification and short animation films will be screened.
About DEFA Retrospective : The DEFA retrospective presents for the first time the films of DEFA (Deutsche Film AG), the former East German film studios, which are relatively unknown in India.
The films, selected with the aim of providing an overview of film production in the German Democratic Republic featurejust a small section of DEFA Foundation’s large stock comprising 950 feature films, 820 animation films and more than 5800 documentary films that were produced between 1946 and 1992 in various DEFA studios. Besides classics such as “Traces of Stones” (Spur der Steine) “The Legend of Paul and Paula” (Die Legende von Paul und Paula) and “The Sons of Great Bear” (Die Söhne der großenBärin), documentary films such as “Leipzig imHerbst” (Leipzig imHerbst), which portray East Germany shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and short animation films will be screened.
The retrospective will be continued in January 2012.
