In the first volume of Markus Heitz’s internationally bestselling fantasy saga The Dwarves, Tungdil the blacksmith labors contentedly in the land of Ionandar, the only dwarf in a kingdom of men. Abandoned as a child and sent out into the world to deliver a message and reacquaint himself with his people, the young foundling finds himself thrust into a battle for which he has not been trained. Not only his own safety, but the life of every man, woman and child in Girdlegard depends upon his ability to embrace his heritage. Although he has many unanswered questions, Tungdil is certain of one thing: no matter where he was raised, he is a true dwarf. And no one has ever questioned the courage of the Dwarves.
The programme with the author will also include readings of excerpts from the book The Dwarves in English and in German. Markus Heitz will also be a part of the Children’s Literature Festival Bookaroo in the City 2011.
Markus Heitz, born in 1971 in Homburg/Saar, studied history, German language and literature at the University in Saarbrücken (Saarland). He worked for ten years as a freelance journalist and won the German Fantasy Award in 2003 for his debut novel Shadows over Ulldart. Heitz has published 30 books so far including fantasy, horror and space fiction. His famous trilogy, The DWARVES SAGA, has been translated into various languages and is published in many countries all over the world.
