Event Details : DIAF presents Contemporary Dance from Korea by Son Kyung-soon Yeajeon Dance Company.
Son Kyung-soon Yeajeon Dance Company was founded in 1995 as a result of Professor Son's dedicated efforts to preserve and further develop the original form of Korean traditional dance.
Ever since its debut performance in Seoul in 1995, the company has biennially performed different types of Korean dances, including folk dances, creative Korean dances and court dances called "Jeongjae," which literally translated means the display of talent.
Moreover, the Company has been invited to perform in many theaters in America (Washington D.C.; Richmond, New York), Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka in 2004; Russia (Moscow) and Ukraine (Kiev) in 2005; Libya (Tripoli) in 2006; Armenia (Yerevan) and Belarus (Minsk) in 2007; Austria (Vienna), Czech (Prague) and Australia (Canberra and Melbourne) in 2008, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Korea. The Company, now joined by many leading dancers graduated from Soong-Eui Women's College, will continue to play a significant role in the development of Korean dance by staging regular performances of new creative Korean traditional dances and developing dance education, and training the next generation of dancers.
