The latter seems not to mind when Barbe begins to have an affair with another local lad, Blondel. Demester and Blondel are just two of several young men in the area who have been called up for active military service in a distant land. The prospect of adventure excites the young men and they are eager to depart. But it is not long before the reality of war shatters their illusions and transforms them into thuggish gun-toting monsters.
Meanwhile, back home, Barbe suffers an increasingly torturous emotional trauma as she anticipates the horrors that her lovers are enduring, far from the country of their birth...

LITTLE BY LITTLE BY JEAN ROUCHE/1970/90 MIN.

To prepare for this task he goes to Paris to discover ‘how it is possible that people can live in houses with more than one storey’.
There, Damouré discovers the curious lifestyles and thinking of the Parisian tribe, which he carefully describes in regular letters home to his colleagues.
One of them, believing him to have gone mad, sends Lam to the rescue. In Paris, Damouré and Lam buy a Bugatti convertible and meet Safi, Ariane and a ‘tramp’, Philippe. The group decides to go back to Africa and build a new house. But the two women and Philippe are unable to get used to this new life and leave. The only thing left to do for the three friends is to withdraw to a cabin on the riverbanks and meditate upon ‘modern society’.

Reeboir attaches himself to a dozen pre-teen boys weighed down by contraband they carry across the border; they're mules, always on the move. TRIBUTE TO JEAN ROUCH
MOSSO MOSSO : JEAN ROUCH COMME SI BY JEAN-ANDRÉ FIESCHI/1998/73 MIN
Synopsis: Jean Rouch confided one day to Jean-André Fieschi, "From the Dogon, I learned an extraordinary rule in life, which has finally become my own: Act as if what you're told was true. And in acting "as if," one is, I believe, much closer to reality." It took no more than that to get Fieschi to follow, camera in hand, his "Maître fou" on a strange adventure: "Nine months later, by the river Niger, in the country where he began his work as a film ethnologist, Jean Rouch was to act as if he was filming, in my presence, the twelve first shots of La vache merveilleuse, with his longtime friends Damouré Zika and Tallou Mouzourane, and the ghost of Lam Ibrahim Dia, who had died some months previously, and was responsible for the original story" Mosso Mosso: Jean Rouch comme si is thus the log-book of this imaginary shooting of a film never made, the umpteenth fantasy of the ever-inventive Jean Rouch.
The film ostensibly deals with India's holy cows, the water genie, President Clinton, and, above all the
underlying connections between dream and reality.
