EventDetails : Delhi Craft presents "Saree's Exhibition".
Awards Ceremony on 10th October : Since 2005 Delhi Crafts Council has instituted an annual award “SUTRAKAR SAMMAN” in recognition of the excellence of textile skills across India. Through this award, it is our endeavor to support our unique textile heritage.
The award is presented during the SAREE EXHIBITION and sale organized by Delhi Crafts Council each year.
We take great pleasure in honouring Naseem Ahmad with the SUTRAKAR SAMMAN for the year 2011
Naseem Ahmad is a fitting recipient of the Sutrakar Sammaan. He comes from Uttar Pradesh for excellence in brocade weaving and jaala making of Varanasi.

Sarees 2011 on 10th to 12th October : India is amongst the most creative and prolific source of textile production in the world. Sarees form a large part of this heritage. No other culture has evolved a garment like the Saree that so uniquely symbolizes its aspirations, aesthetics and design sensibilities. It is a living heritage spanning years of cultural history. A single unstitched garment presents an almost infinite variation in texture, color and design.
This vast and invaluable heritage is now under threat from many directions.  Changes in clothing and cultural attitudes, pressures of the global market place and the power loom are all contributing to the decline both in production and usage of the saree.
Through its annual Saree Exhibition and by focusing attention on the remaining pockets of skills across the country in handloom weaving, printing and embroidery Delhi Crafts Council hopes to enlist the support of the quality conscious and aesthetic urban market towards this cause.
The established technique of block printing, weaving, tie and dye, natural dyes and resist prints will be represented at this Exhibition. New designs evolved creatively in a contemporary context will also be represented at this Exhibition.
