On the occasion of Iceland being this year’s Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan in cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland in India and the German Book Office New Delhi will host a series of events to provide an insight into the vivid literary and cultural scene of the Atlantic state.
The Frankfurt Book Fair, is the world’s largest Book Fair and most important marketplace for books, media, rights and licences worldwide. Year after year, the appearance of a ‘Guest of Honour’ gives a changing face to this major cultural event. For the Guest of Honour, this appearance has a dual significance. Apart from the enormous attention paid to its literature and culture as introduced in countless events, the Guest of Honour’s book industry also benefits from the presentation on the international platform of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Under the title “Fabulous Iceland”, the guest country will present its culture to a national and international audience and provide insights into its literary past and present. Nearly 200 titles of Icelandic fiction and non-fiction are going to be published in Germany and more than 35 Icelandic authors are expected to be in Frankfurt, including Andri Snær Magnason, Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir, Hallgrímur Helgason, Jón Kalman Stefánsson, Kristín Steinsdóttir and Sjón, along with famous crime writers Arnaldur Indriðason and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir and this year’s winner of the Nordic literature prize Gyrðir Elíasson.

6.30 pm - No network Dugguholufólkið; 81 mins
Director: Ari Kristinsson, 2007
Kalli, a young boy living with his mother in the suburbs of Reykjavik, thrives in the world of movies and computer games. When he is sent to spend Christmas with his father's new family up north at an isolated farm, Kalli meets his stepsister, whom he does not get along with. Soon he decides to run away, but only to be hit harder by reality and Kalli has to learn how to fight "real life" challenges while encountering imaginary and fictional creatures.
8 pm - Jar City Mýrin; 93 mins

In 1974, a young Icelandic girl met a grim fate at the hands of a murderer – and the crime was never solved. In the present day, the jaded and exhausted detective Erlendur investigates a link between that crime and the homicide of a local thug. Erlendur also struggles in his private life with the drug addiction of his pregnant daughter. Meanwhile, Oern, an employee at a DNA-mapping lab, reels from the death of his own daughter. In time, the two men's lives will intersect in a myriad of ways that neither can even begin to foresee.
