Event Details : Salaam Baalak Trust presents an evening with Shubha Mudgal in concert accompanied by Aneesh Pradhan on the Tabla and Sudhir Nayak on the Harmonium in aid of Salaam Baalak Trust.
Twenty two years ago, we discovered the world of street children. The harsh, raw, underbelly of the city. And yet, it was a life they had chosen, in preference to a home and family that had obviously become entirely intolerable.
There is so much missing from their lives – food, security, health, love, education. All these we urged ourselves they needed. And a place to play - perchance to dream. All children must dream, of better days, of happier times.
It is this chance that Salaam Baalak Trust, (set up in 1988) aims to provide. At our 11 centers in New Delhi and Gurgaon, we try to create a sense of belonging, and secure spaces where dreaming is possible.
Sometimes, we can make these dreams come true. Simple dreams – of warmth at night; of a hot, cooked meal; of someone to dress a wound and hold a hand when it hurts. And less simple ones – an education; a job; a monthly salary; four walls to call your own; above all, a future. For the future is what children represent.
Whatever Salaam Baalak Trust can do – it will be a poor fraction of what the children deserve – please help us to do more.
SBT works in New Delhi and Gurgaon providing support services to over 2500 children annually. Last year we were able to take back over 300 children who had been lost or had run away from home. Over 1000 children are provided shelter in one of our 5 homes in the NCR region. Our children are provided ever possible opportunity to allow them to discover their best potential. We have two students studying engineering, 3 who have completed their Masters in Arts program, 2 who have won scholarships for advanced programs to American Universities and many more who are pursuing their academic career in school and colleges in the city.
