Pratibimb Kala Darpan presents "Mujhe Amrita Chahiye" Hindi Play at LTG Auditorium, Copernicus Marg > 7pm on 28th March 2011
Time : 7:00 pm
Entry : Free
Event Details : Pratibimb Kala Darpan presents “Mujhe Amrita Chahiye” a play in Hindi.
The play presents at once the story of women’s status in society and theatre as an instrument of emancipation. It is the story of a shy and simple girl who gains confidence through theater and proof herself a valuable component of the society. Vijaya, a sensitive girl shackled by her domestic concerns experiences emancipation through theatre. In a sense, it is also a celebratory play about theatre itself. Supporting this main theme, there are sub-stories about man-women relationships. Vijaya, too shy to have confidence in her desirability, finds mutual love in Kamesh, the leading actor in the play within the play. Actor Annu, who seems to have a crush on Director Arvind finds her love unrequited.
Putraji, Vijaya’s do-nothing brother, is a hen pecked husband married to a quietly domineering office going woman. Finally, there is the sub-story of Vijaya’s religious but broad- minded father who appears to have managed life seemingly pretty well despite an arranged marriage. In short, the play takes didacticism to complex aesthetic patterns with vivid characters infused with humour and wit. The play maintains a lively tempo throughout.
