The Skoda Prize is the largest award on the Indian visual arts scene. The million rupee prize recognises cutting-edge work demonstrating vision, innovation, and a mature understanding of material and form. The Prize brings to public notice exciting trends in contemporary art, highlighting the output of established mid-career artists as well as new voices.
The Skoda Prize Show is a selection of work by three artists, Alwar Balasubramaniam, Kiran Subbaiah and Mithu Sen, shortlisted from a field of 169, deemed to have produced the most exciting solo exhibition of 2009-2010. The inaugural Skoda Prize winner will be selected on the basis of this show.
The chairperson of the jury is Tasneem Mehta, Director of the Bhau Daji Lad Museum. She is joined on the panel by Rajshree Pathy, industrialist, collector and director of Contemplate Arts Initiative; and Kavita Singh, professor in the Department of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Two international experts will also be part of the final jury.
The Skoda Prize is an initiative of Seventy EMG.
