Event Details : The Long Night of Literature, second in the series of literary encounters on contemporary writings in German, is jointly hosted by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the German Book Office, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan and Pro Helvetia in collaboration with Religare Art Gallery. Moderated by the well known actor and poet Danish Husain, this event of prose and poetry will include conversations and readings from books by Austrian, German and Swiss authors and will bring together literature enthusiasts.

Saša Stanišić, born in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1978, is a novelist, playwright and travel journalist. He has been living in German speaking countries since 1992. With his debut novel “How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone” Stanišić exalted the readers and critics alike. It was nominated for the German Book Prize in the year 2006 and has been translated into 30 languages.
Esther Kinsky, born in 1956 is an author and literary translator. Since 1986 she has been doing translation from Polish, Russian and English literature and has also translated German Poetry into English. Kinsky has received numerous scholarships, grants and prizes among others the prestigious Paul-Celan-Award in the year 2009. Her debut novel “Summer Resort” (Sommerfrische) has been published recently by Seagull Books as a part of the German List.
Martin Chalmers, the renowned translator, originally from Glasgow is now based in Berlin. His numerous translations include works by Nobel Prize winners Herta Müller and Elfriede Jelinek. In 2004 he was awarded the Schlegel-Tieck Translation Prize for his translation of “The Lesser Evil: The Diaries of Victor Klemperer 1945-59”. In the recent past he has translated various books, which are a part of the German List published by Seagull Books including “Summer Resort” by Esther Kinsky.
