Akhil Sharma, an Indian American writer and author of An Obedient Father has been conferred the O. Henry Prize Story Award in 1998 and the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award in 2001.
According to a Publishers Weekly reviewer, Akhil Sharma's debut novel, An Obedient Father, made him a "supernova in the galaxy of young, talented Indian writers." An Indian-born, American-educated investment
banker, Sharma had been published in such periodicals as The Atlantic and The New Yorker and has worked as a screenwriter to Steven Spielberg prior to publishing An Obedient Father.
Born in 1972 in New Delhi, he immigrated to the United States in 1979. He did his graduation from Princeton University and also attended Harvard Law School.
