In this show one will explore his Ourve in his drawings sketches and small lithographs that were the spine of his large paintings.
This collection is part of a private collection. Apparao Galleries will present small format drawing and coloured gleanings as a series “Before the Canvas” – in several cities over this year as part of our endeavour to acquaint collectors with an insight into artists whose works have formed the history of the art movement in India.
Sakti Burman was originally from Calcutta but moved to live in Paris in the sixties. The Bengali pictorial traditions of visual narratives and the European allegories are best seen in a perfect combination in the works of Sakti Burman. His paintings, drawings, prints and artworks articulate anecdotes and stories where he combines the east and west. Picking from pictorial traditions of India and academic figure studies and portraits of the West he uses the combination, visually very eloquently in his work.
