When we think of pioneering regions of modern art in India, we think of Bengal!
Brown Sahib and Nitanjali Art Gallery brings to you the finest amalgamation of food and art by taking you on an unforgettable ‘Bengal Odyssey’ – an art exhibition showcasing some of the very distinctive and impressive art style of Bengal during the British Raj era.
The Bengal school of art arose as an experimental movement reacting against the academic art styles previously promoted in India during the British Raj. It went through various phases of influences thereon and formed a new identity through the current modernist style. It continues to produce some of the best artists of modern and contemporary India.
Some of the participating artists include Suhas Roy, Amiya Bhattacharya, Dibyendu Ukil, Kishore Roy, Shubhra Das, Sutapa Khan, Shekhar Roy and more....
While exploring the artistic grandeur of the timeless Bengal it’s hard to overlook the quintessential Bengali cuisine. Brown Sahib, a gastronome’s delight, brings to life the true flavours of the colonial era with an extensive menu that offers KANCHA LONKA DIYE MURGHI (Chicken morsels marinated with green chillies and cooked over charcoal), MEMSAHIB’S PRAWNS (Spicy tandoor grilled prawns), DEVILLED EGGS (Half-boiled eggs topped with cayenne pepper flavoured stuffing), MOCHAR CHOP (Spiced banana flower croquettes), BHAPA ALU (Steamed marinated baby potatoes). And to satiate your sweet tooth nothing is better than to try your hands on the divine BHAPA DOI IN CARAMEL CUPS (Bengali cheesecake in caramel containers) or the popular BAKED SANDESH (A contemporary take on the traditional sandesh).
This exhibition is a magnificent mirror of the richness of Bengali culture, blending the visual appeal of classic paintings with a traditional aromatic cuisine. For anyone with an enormous zest for creativity, ‘Bengal Odyssey’ is definitely reminiscent of the British Raj encompassed in fine arts.
