Event Details : Gati Summer Dance Residency 2010 proudly presents 'All Warmed Up 2010'.
The Gati Summer Dance Residency (GSDR) has been initiated by the GATI Dance Forum with the aim of addressing a key area in the development of dance artists, and that which is largely ignored in dance education in India – that of dance creation or choreography. Gati has been working as a support network and resource provider for dancers. Its activities include workshops in dance technique and choreography, open classes for dancers at affordable rates, presenting and showcasing the work of emerging and established dancers and choreographers in the city and running a website about dance in India.
The Gati Summer Dance Residency is a unique residency that aims to target young aspiring, choreographers from different dance backgrounds, traditional and contemporary, and offers 4 young dancers the unique opportunity to work with experienced mentors in the field during over a period of 10 weeks to develop their own individual choreographic works. Held in Delhi between May 2 and July 11, 2010, the residency provides each choreographer with financial support, individual mentoring, workshops and discussions, rehearsal space and production assistance.

Through the Residency, GATI intends to contribute to the development of the professional dance scene in Delhi by enabling young artists to develop their technical and creative skills. The mentoring programme, unique to GSDR, aims to provide a platform for exchange of creative expertise and experience. Gati believes that the creation of such opportunities is essential for the development of a vital and active dance space in the city.
This year’s 4 residents are the emerging choreographers Lokesh Bharadawaj (Delhi), Divya Vibha Sharma (Bangalore), Rajyashree Ramamurthi (Pune) and Shilpika Bordoloi (Assam/Delhi) who developed 4 performances with the creative support of Maya K. Rao, Anusha Lall and Amitesh Grover.
Thanks to the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands, this year “the master of improvisation in contemporary dance”, David Zambrano (Venezuela/ The Netherlands) kicked off the residency with an intensive week of creative input, choreography and improvisation skills. And for the last 3 weeks of the residency Jonathan O’Hear, an experienced lighting designer from Switzerland will intensely work with the 4 residents on the visual aspects of the stage performance. His participation is possible thanks to the generous support of Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council in Delhi.
