Event Details : Gallery Sanskriti presents an exhibition that will showcase the works of ‘youthful’ artists from Bengal. ‘Youthful’ does not necessarily mean that they are emerging artists. All of them are full of youthful energy and vibrant ideas. For instance, Partha Pratim Dey is a veteran sculptor and an iconoclastic object maker who has been drawing and painting as well brilliantly. Born in 1943, Partha Pratim Deb completed his professional diploma in Fine Arts and Craft from Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan followed by a post diploma in the Faculty Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda. His work has been as a collection with the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Delhi Art Gallery.
Chhatrapati Dutta, born in 1964, is a mid-career artist who earned his master’s degree in art from Kala Bhavana in the early 90s after spending a year in the University of Athens, Greece, on a scholarship. Prosenjit Sengupta was also born in 1964 and graduated in fine arts from Rabindra Bharati University. He has won a number of awards and showed in Mumbai and New Delhi apart from Kolkata. Born in 1959, Debabrata Dey has been sculpting for more than a decade now. Partha Shaw, born in 1971, is the youngest in the group. Shaw studied art in Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, from where he completed his master’s degree in Fine Arts.
The show, as is evident from the title, will bring together paintings and sculptures both figurative and abstract in distinctly individual and original styles. What’s more important is that all the selected artists address critical social issues and or present a documentation of the times with subtlety and sophistication, reacting from their positions as art practitioners. They are all introspective artists true to what Deb has to say about art “the connotation of visual creativity does not hold on to any 'ism' or style, but is an outcome of spontaneous playfulness happening as a process of introspection and submission.” Debabrata Dey documents life in N orth Kolkata almost like a film maker.
