Event Details : 'Om Gurave Namah' A Dedication to Guru Mayadhar Raut.
The dancers of the Mayadhar Raut Gharana of Odissi pay homage to their Adi Guru, Guru Mayadhar Raut, to celebrate his 79th Birthday. Guru Mayadhar Raut is the source of one of the four main Gharanas of Odissi, and his style is known for great aesthetic beauty and subtle nuances. He has created and put into use an extensive vocabulary of Mudras. His creations are based on extensive research and have deep philosophical roots. Over the years he has created a galaxy of well known performing artists and Gurus.
On this special occasion, his senior disciples, led by his daughter Madhumita Raut, will present a rare collection of his choreographic works created as solo dance pieces. All the choreographies are landmarks in a lifetime of service to Odissi and are important markers in the history of Odissi in the last sixty years.
