DANCE Drama : Kriti...a creation presents "Maniram Dewan - Echoes of 1857" at LTG Auditorium - 12th Feb 09

Event Details : Kriti……a creation , a registered group of professional dancers , is going to stage a dance drama ‘MANIRAM DEWAN – Echoes of 1857 ’.
Maniram Dewan is a personality with progressive , spirited mind and patriotism . Born in Shivsagar District , Assam , Maniram was revenue siraster in the British administration . He joined the first and famous tea company of the world ‘The Assam Company ’ where he proved himself as a successful tea planter.
Later on when he was able to understand the limit of the advantages that could be given to his native capital by imperialism, he stood against British and their selfish gain. This cost him much and he had to sacrifice his life for the nation. On 26th February 1858 Maniram Dewan along with his associate Peali Barua were hanged in Jorhat.

About Kriti : Kriti……a creation is a group of professional dancers who had come together to perform and promote Indian classical dance (Kathak) with a new vision where folk and contemporary dance forms are also blended with Kathak for its production .
The group has been successfully experimenting with different geners of dance specially Assamese folk dance using folk instruments with abstract concept . Dancers are Hemanta Kumar Kalita , Barun Banerjee , Divya Upreti , Diksha Upreti , Pallavi Sharma , Nishant Gupta , Prakash Karkare , Surya Narayan Pandey and Sanjeev.
