DANCE ( Classical ) : Natya Vriksha presents Bharatanatyam Arangetram by Anjana Seshadri at Chinmaya Mission - 15th November 08

  • Time : 6:30 pm
  • Event Details : Geeta Chandran, Founder-President, Natya Vriksha cordially invites you to the Bharatanatyam Arangetram Performance of her disciple Anjana Seshadri (daughter of Nandini and R.S. Seshadri)
  • Anjana Seshadri has been learning Bharatanatyam for the past 13 years. She deeply cherishes these years she has spent under the tutelage of Guru Geeta Chandran.
  • Anjana loves the rigor, discipline, spiritual depth and cultural diversity of Bharatanatyam. But as a sensitive person, she is also fascinated by its charm, form and norms. What overwhelms her is the pristine joy it provides her by erasing her own identity and merging her with a Sense, Power and Beauty far beyond her own talent. She views dancing as a key to the core of one’s sublime inner self.
  • Anjana, as an alumnus of the prestigious Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, New Delhi, has had a consistently excellent record at School. She was amongst the Honour Group who received a Blue Tie and a Blue Blazer for sustained high performance in academics for six consecutive years.
  • Dancing with the Natya Vriksha Dance Company and for other cultural organizations, she was a member of a cultural delegation that had been sponsored by the Government of India to Russia in 2005. She had the unique distinction of performing in several schools and art centres in Russia .She has performed at several events organized by DPS such as in the opening ceremony of the Model United Nations (2005) and for the Youth Korean Exchange group (2006).
  • Anjana’s social consciousness and her committed concern for the less able and the differently abled are notable. She was unanimously chosen as a Director of her School Interact Club and was later chosen as a Member of the school’s Social Service League. She was very active in working with under-privileged and children with special needs and caring for and bringing cheer to the old and the infirm.
  • Currently, Anjana is pursuing her Bachelors in Microbiology at Gargi College, Delhi University. She is an active member in the Indian Dance Society of her college and in the Microbiological Society of her Department.
  • Anjana was also selected by the Indian Academy of Sciences for a Summer Research Fellowship Programme, 2008. As a Summer Research Fellow, she had the unique opportunity to work for two months at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad.
  • Arangetram is an important occasion in the career of any Bharatanatyam dancer. After several years -- decades even -- of arduous training, when the Guru is confident that the disciple can sustain a solo performance, the arangetram is announced. The arangetram thus is an honour to the Guru; a momentous rite of passage, it marks the first milestone in the disciple’s journey into the ocean of Bharatanatyam.
  • Place : Hamco Auditorium, Chinmaya Centre of World Understanding , 89 Lodhi Road, New Delhi - 110003
