- AAKRITI is a Bengali theatre group, established in early 2002 with the aim to produce good, meaningful plays of social relevance and offer healthy entertainment to theatre lovers. In its short tenure, the group has traversed a long winding path. It has performed theatre shows in different parts of Delhi, participated in drama competitions and won many a laurels. Our productions in the past were highly acclaimed by discerning critics and general audience.
- The members of our group are a mix of old veterans and upcoming talents, who are committed to advancing the cause of theatre. Ever since its formation, the group had always aspired to carve out a niche in the theatre circuits of Delhi. Although we had teething trouble in the initial years, we successfully produced atho shiksha bichitra in 2003 and staged the play in different parts of Delhi. However, our major breakthrough came in 2004 when we staged bohurupee and bagged the Second Best Production prize in the short drama competition organized by New Delhi Kali Bari. During the prize distribution ceremony the judges spoke in glowing terms about the play. They were so impressed with the performance of one of our actors that they declared a Special Prize for him. This was a fillip to us. We were emboldened and resolved to produce more stage-worthy plays in future. The result was AAKRITI cornered as many as six prizes in the same drama competition in 2005 for its production aansher gandho (an original script). These were in the category of Best Light, Best Music, Best Stagecraft, Best Supporting Actor, Second Best Direction and Second Best Production.
- In July 2005, AAKRITI staged two one-act plays – sharameyo shangbad and aansher gandho – at B.C Pal Auditorium, C.R.Park, New Delhi, on the occasion of its annual day celebration. Celebrities, dignitaries, persons renowned in the field of art & culture, and theatre lovers were invited to witness the show. The plays were appreciated by one and all and the show was a grand success.
- The year 2006 is the golden year of the group. Its latest production ekti durghatana o ekti atmahatya has become a runaway success. The script is an original one, written by one of the group’s members. The play has lots of twist and turn and in the garb of comedy conveys a message at the end. With powerful acting, innovative stagecraft, appropriate use of light and sound and subtle directorial touches, the play keeps the audience spellbound. So far it has been staged in the competition organized by New Delhi Kali Bari in January (bagged two prizes for best script and best music) and at Chandigarh in the competition organized by Chandigarh Kali Bari in April. Wherever it was staged, the play drew enthusiastic response from critics and general audience. At Chandigarh, it created a sensation among the public. There were repeated applause and words of appreciation from the audience when the play was on. At the end the actors and actresses were overwhelmed by the lavish praises showered on them. The play also got rave review from critics. It was awarded the maximum number of prizes in the competition. These were in the category of Best Direction, Best Script, Best Light, Second Best Actor and Second Best Production.
- In December 2006 AAKRITI staged its new production kancher manush, again an original script, along with ekti durghatana… at LTG auditorium.
- In January 2007 AAKRITI participated in the prestigious drama competition at Allahabad and staged ekti durghatana o ekti atmahatya successfully. It bagged the fifth best production prize.
- AAKRITI’s forte is professionalism and hard work. It is committed to serious theatre and open to experimentation. It is already one of the leading Bengali theatre groups in Delhi.
