  • Event Details : Kalagram presents 'The First Step', an exhibition of paintings by Nihar Das, Sushant Nayak, Sushma Shah, Ashish Mondal, Jeevan Biswas, Chandramani and Aishwarya.
  • Kalagram presents ---‘The First Step’ ---- an eclectic collection of paintings by various artists from across India….Orissa, Calcutta and Haridwar . The exhibition will be showcased at the Experimental Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre from 23 March-4 April, 2008. The exhibition will comprise approximately 30 oeuvres d’art.
  • The artists include Nihar Das, Sushant Nayak, Sushma Shah, Ashish Mondal, Jeevan Biswas, Chandramani and Aishwarya. A vibrant colour palette, inimitable techniques and interesting renditions on canvas – from spirituality to political satire – is what the exhibition offers.
  • Nihar Das who hails from Orissa adds, “I express my feelings and thoughts through my paintings and they reflect a realistic approach to the subject. In addition, my works offer a glimpse of traditional Orissi art (the patta chitra). The flat blue depicts hope and dreams within the sky and sea, as their life is associated with the open sky and vast sea. The hard yellow color depicts a sense of struggle...” His painting ‘Rush Hour’ talks about the frenetic traffic situation at peak time in metros. “The Tortoise mark means the speed that we move at. Somehow we manage to reach our destination.” His canvases are a telling comment on many issues that baffle the contemporary society. The intensity of thought is revealed very subtly in each work.
  • Sushant Nayak, a self-taught artist, says of his ‘Quest of Life’ series, “Due to innumerable desires, frustration is an inherent part of every human being since ancient civilization. Nobody is fully satisfied and internally pursues something…… what? Perhaps, something unknown. According to Indian philosophy every soul crosses seven stages of transitory ness for salvation. Knowingly or unknowingly, every life has to pass these seven stages to reach the ultimate goal of human life and lastly see a glimpse of eternity.”
  • Kalagram is an organization that promotes Art, Craft & Sculpture. They have created a consortium of Artist from different parts of India. This exhibition is an endeavour to showcase the works of few artists who come from different backgrounds and have used various mediums on canvas to create diverse works of art. It is a new venture managed by experienced industry professionals, who have joined hands together to use their experience to provide a platform to deserving artists to showcase their work and indulge their creative abilities.
