  • Mridang - Dhol performances by artists from Chandigarh
  • Chitra : Preview of Holi 2008 Art Exhibition
  • Artists paint Holi, using Holi colours, and natural / Indian materials; we celebrate Holi with our own colours, not just Oils and Acrylics
  • Celebrations start on the evening of March 21st 2008, at Rafael’s, a new gallery space in Chattarpur with the opening of an art show featuring renowned visual artists, and the ceremony of Holika Dehen (The Burning of Holi). The artists have made works specially for the show, on the theme of the festival. Many of the artists have also used natural colours, pigments and Indian materials, like Holi colours to make the works, as a way of celebrating one of the oldest Indian festivals with Indian colours!
  • Holika Dehen is presented in collaboration with Ritu Walia Art.
  • Next morning, Dhulendi (Colour Play) celebrations will see a burst of colours. The celebrations will solely be with natural wet colours (which will be made in-house for the occasion) and gulaal (dry colour powder). Toxic colours are not used in our Holi, in aim to revive older traditions of playing Holi organically, and in an attempt to stay away from the vulgarity that Holi has come to be associated with in modern times.
  • Dhulendi is presented in collaboration with CKS.
  • Both days will feature special traditional food and drinks (Bhang included), and celebration with Holi music – pre-recorded Holi music as well as live Dhol players from Punjab. In addition, both celebrations will have a thematic dress code – Naurangi (Nine Colours) on the first day and Basanti (Yellow / Saffron) on the second. Thus Holi 2008 will present a complete organic experience in tune with the traditional way of celebrating the festival.
