  • Scripted and directed by : Smita Bharti
  • About the Play : As the Sun Sets is a story of that time of life when there are more pills on our plates than food, when we have to constantly interchange reading glasses with looking glasses, when ears need hearing aids and legs need support of canes, when voices become fragile and time together limited.
  • Exploding the illusion of ‘so much time’, ‘As the Sun Sets’ juxtaposes the strength of a long loving partnership with strident declarations of a lifelong hatred, animosity between mother and daughter with poignant bonding between step-father and step-daughter. An 18- till –I- die matron and the songster servant rock the house with their light hearted banter as the very responsible and slightly lonely doctor romances the daughter of the house, a ‘hard-boiled’ economic analyst.
  • A dysfunctional family finds in death a great leveler. Common experiences of loss and bereavement lead to the beginning of a tentative connection between an estranged mother and daughter. As death knocks on their front door, we see this family finally turn around and really look ... some of them … at lives well lived, some of them … at dreams lost along the way… and rediscover what really stayed… beyond Death!
  • Replete with nostalgic Bollywood oldies, songs to fit every occasion and tug at your heartstrings, multi-media projections and dances that epitomize romance and celebrate life, the play raises and addresses issues of death and dying, life and living, grief and grieving, love and loving…
  • Come…..witness Life! Beyond Death! In As the Sun Sets….
