Movie Details : Screening of the film ‘Hey Ram’ followed by discussion as part of PARTITION -THE LONG SHADOW series.
Saket Ram ( Kamal Hassan ) is a simple man living his married life in Calcutta but his world collapse when during the riots, his Muslim Tailor Altaf with his friends gangrapes his wife ( Rani Mukherjee ) and then brutally murder her. This shocking incidence changes Saket Ram from a peace loving man to a revengeful person who is ready to kill muslims but when he come across a blind muslim girl, he realizes that they are as helpless as he is.
After that, Saket remarries to Mythili ( Vasundhara Das ) and he seems to be moving ahead in life. But when they move back to calcutta, the old memories starts to haunt Saket Ram and he joins people who convince him to kill Mahatma Gandhi to save India.
He reaches Delhi to accomplish his task of killing Mahatma Gandhi but he loses his gun and then he reaches to a Muslim colony where he meets his childhood friend, Amjad ( Shahrukh Khan ). Hindus attacks that muslim colony and Amjad dies in that tussle. Saket Ram realizes that he is going on the wrong path. He then decides to meet Mahatma Gandhi to ask for his forgiveness on the day when Nathuram Godse kills Gandhi.
