MOVIE REVIEW "DHOL" A Comedy Movie by Priyadarshan

  • "Dhol" is a comedy genre. Priyadarshan seems to have mastered the craft of tickling the funny bone with movies like 'Hera Pheri' but this effort is quiet futile. The story revolves around 4 wegabonds trying to make big in life by marrying a rich girl. Tanushree dutta moves into the neighborhood with her grand parents and they (Sam [Tusshar Kapoor], Pakkya [Sharman Joshi], Maru [Rajpal Yadav] and Goti [Kunal Khemu]) see it as an opportunity from the heavens. The headlessness of the four friends makes the movie a comedy of errors. The movie is bound to move you to laughter fits more then often but fails to bind the idea of true sense tickler. "Dhol" kiska bajega - has all the flavors of the typical movie saga - thrill, crime, murder, suspense, music etc.
  • Dhol is completely irrational and may get irritating at times. The comedy scenes come and go but the crime element in the movie will make you leave the seat and think about eating, drinking, scratching, yawning, nature calls and EVERYTHING else. The comedy scenes like blowing out the 'Havan' pyre (assuming Tanushree's house on fire), pushing the car off a cliff (in an effort to push start the vehicle), mistaking the labour pain of a pregnant woman for a kidnap etc will sure move you to spills of laughter. However, the sequences are monotonous and bore the audiences to the hilt. If you get a sudden desire to rush in the first half, PLEASE trust your instincts because the other half is just the endless drag.
  • Tushar and Arbaaz khan are fair in their roles. Rajpal Yadav meets expectations of dumbness and comedy. Kunal Khemu's maiden effort is commendable. 'Dhol' has very little insignificant to offer Tanushree and Payal Rohatgi beacause the movie is an all boys do. Murli Sharma drags the thriller pie of the movie and leaves you bored, completely. Om puri, Tiku Talsania and Asrani are impressive in their bits.
  • The musical score can be forgotten withour regrets. 'Dhol Bajake' is a decent chartburster number. Piyush Shah's cinematography is a gimcrack, though!
  • On the whole, Dhol is a hilrious formula, which has been repeated innumerous times in the past.
  • Go, have a laugh!
