  • About the Play : 'Hardam Mareez' is a Comedy Satire on Medical System.
  • THEATRE SPIRITS, the revolutionary new theatre company brings theatre audiences, “H A R D A M M A R E E Z”, a transcreation of Moliere’s imaginary invalid, in Hindi. The play is a farcical tale of a hypochondriac (Shantaram) who is willing to marry off his daughter (Hawawa) to a physician to ensure himself a lifetime of medical treatments.
  • HARDAM MAREEZ is a brilliant and satirical look at the medical profession, which offers social commentary that is as timely today as it was when the original play premiered nearly 330 years ago. As Shantaram’s (the "Mareez") financial circumstances collapse under the weight of excessive medical bills, made by his own fears and by the unscrupulous behavior of his two physicians, he conceives the idea of marrying his daughter off to one of his doctors in return for a lifetime of free medical treatments. The idea meets opposition, though, when it becomes clear that the young lady's affections lie elsewhere. Soon the entire household is involved in an elaborate, uproarious plot to save true love and to unlock Shantaram from the shackles of false and deceptive treatments of his favorite physician.
  • “H A R D A M M A R E E Z” (Imaginary Invalid) is a perfectly suited comic satiric commentary on society that explores eternal human foibles and obsessions. In this case, it intends to question the myths of advancement of medical science, but not necessarily denounce it. Not surprisingly, the play may invite many detractors and possibly, stir up a controversy. Thus serving our intention to create a doubt or not with the audiences.
